Welcome to Vestmore Realty Blog once again. When you are in Davao City, getting around is just easy because you have plenty of Davao transportation choices depending on your budget and convenience preferences (if you don’t have a private car).
Here is a list of Transportation Options available in Davao City
Taxi cabs – taxi cabs are the most convenient means of transportation in Davao City. You can relax and delight in the sights and sounds as you go around Davao City free from dust and fumes because all taxis in Davao City are air-conditioned. Of course, comes with the convenience is the price. Riding taxi cab is convenient, hassle-free because it does not stop every now and then to pick up passengers, and fastest way to reach your destination because you can choose to veer away from busy major streets and choose roads that has lesser traffic but can also be the most expensive means of going around the city of Davao.
You can have the taxi cab fetch you to where ever you are in Davao City by calling them via land line or mobile phone. If you don’t have their number, many taxis are available roaming around the city streets and all you have to do is wave your hand to signal that you will ride them. During the night, you will know that a taxi has no passenger or empty through the red light at the top. If the light is off, it means there’s a passenger inside.
The flag down rate for taxis in Davao City is Php40.00 (USD0.93 ). It will add up Php3.50 (USD0.08) for the next 500 meters. After the first 500 meters, Php3.50 (USD0.08) will be added for every 300 meters traveled.
When the taxi stops, the Php3.50 (USD0.08) will be added every 2 minutes. In other words, you will incur bigger taxi expense if you are stuck in a traffic. So it is wise to choose roads that are not busy. If you are familiar with the streets, you can tell the driver the route you wanted to take like what we do every time we ride a taxi.
You can also hire the taxi for a whole day use for a fixed price usually ranging from Php2, 000 (USD46.44) to Php5, 000 (USD116.00) or more depending on your itinerary.

So if your budget allows, go for the taxi cabs.
Jeepneys and Multicabs ( PUV-Public Utility Vehicle) – The main means of public transportation for the people of Davao are the jeeps and multicabs for the reason that they are very affordable. This is not so convenient because it can really get crowded especially during peak hours that others label it as “canned sardines”. Jeepneys and multicabs are plenty in the City and they have different routes. The difference between a multicab and a jeepney is that the jeepney is bigger than the multicab.
Routes are written on the side of the the jeepneys and multicabs and others can be seen in front. They usually carry a signboard in their windshield which enable passengers to know what streets they are going to pass by.
If you want to ride a jeepney or multicab, just wave your hand and they will stop for you to ride. The minimum fare is Php8.00 (USD0.19). It can get higher depending on the distance you will travel. It is advisable to give your fare earlier, before you reach your destination to avoid delay. If you already arrive your destination, you just say “lugar lang” or you may knock on the ceiling with your hands or coin.
Tricycle – These are motorized vehicles plying the inner streets of the city like Malvar Street, F. Torres Street and other streets in the city. The fare is only Php7.00 (USD0.16)
Motorcab and Tricycads – Motorcab refers to motorcycle with an attached passenger sidecar (passenger cabin). These can be found in streets where no jeepneys are plying. Trycycads on the other hand is actually a bicycle attached with a sidecar (sometimes installed with umbrella) which are pedal-powered. It is called trycycad because the driver does the “sikad” or pedaling to make it run. Fare for this public transportation is only Php5.00 (USD0.12).
Rent a Car – You can also opt to rent a car. It can be very convenient especially if you will go to far-off tourist attractions in Davao City.
